The Hand You're Dealt

The Hand You’re Dealt
Every life begins with a hand none of us chose.
Some of what we inherit offers safety while some of it asks something more difficult of us. Though much of it shapes us long before we have the words to understand it.
The Hand You're Dealt is the inaugural collection within the foundation's Candle Studio and tells a symbolic journey through five candles exploring common early stages of awakening, healing, and becoming.
Created around the remarkable relationship between scent, memory, and the nervous system, each candle pairs scent, carved-crystals, symbolism, charitable giving, and reflection to create space for a different chapter of becoming. Together, they move from the moment life changes unexpectedly, through the inherited stories that shape us, the courage to live authentically, the freedom that comes with understanding ourselves more deeply, and finally, the possibility of creating a future that is truly our own.
Every candle also supports a carefully selected nonprofit or awareness organization whose work reflects the heart of that chapter. Giving back has always been part of the collection's foundation, as an opportunity to support the people, organizations, and movements working every day to create healthier communities, better resources, and brighter futures for our children and the world they will inherit.
While The Hand You're Dealt explores the first five symbolic stages of the journey, the companion collection, Below Deck, continues into the quieter landscapes of intuition, imagination, and the deeper ways we learn to navigate life beyond what can be seen.
No two people will walk this path in exactly the same way, and order is not of any importance when choosing the candle that speaks most honestly to where you are today.
I. The Black Rock
Every journey begins somewhere.

The Black Rock represents the moment life is no longer what you thought it was. It honors the quiet courage required to keep going when certainty has fractured and the future feels impossible to imagine.
Created in memory of friends lost to suicide and inspired by the hope that struggle can be recognized before it becomes isolation, this foundational candle supports CHILL.org alongside organizations advancing brain injury and CTE awareness. Every young person deserves environments where mental health, emotional wellbeing, and invisible injuries are taken seriously.
Even in our darkest seasons, something living remains.
II. The Motherland
Before we understand ourselves, we inherit stories.

The Motherland explores the earliest relationships that shape our understanding of love, belonging, nurture, identity, and home. It isn't about blaming, but rather recognizing the patterns we inherit so they no longer have to be carried unconsciously into the future.
Inspired in part by Tippi Hedren's extraordinary story of resilience following her experience on Birds, and with Alfred Hitchcock, and dedicated in loving memory of my Aunt Joanne, this candle honors the courage required to reclaim your own story.
Supporting Cancer Schmancer, it reflects the belief that awareness, education, and compassionate prevention have the power to change lives for generations to come.
III. The Sequin Cowboy
Sensitivity has never been weakness.

Affectionately known as our Velvet Elvis burn of the bunch, The Sequin Cowboy honors the emotional lives of young boys and men while challenging the belief that vulnerability must be sacrificed in order to belong.
Created in the hope of a softer future for the next generation, it celebrates tenderness, authenticity, and emotional courage as profound strengths rather than shortcomings.
This candle proudly supports Gumboot Friday in New Zealand, helping provide free mental health counseling and resources to children and young people in need, who deserve to know that asking for help is never something to be ashamed of.
IV. In The Raw
There comes a moment when surviving is no longer enough.

In The Raw marks the place where old identities have fallen away. It is an invitation to recognize a moment of rebirth that takes place when we realize many of the burdens we've carried were never ours to begin with.
This candle honors the quiet courage of meeting yourself without armor. Not because the past disappears, but because understanding it creates the possibility of choosing something different.
Its name reflects something larger than personal healing. Just as ecosystems recover when given the chance to return to their natural balance, so can we. Supporting Re:wild, which singularly focuses on the wild as the most powerful solution to the interconnected crises of climate, biodiversity loss, and human wellbeing, this candle celebrates restoration, renewal, and the belief that healing ourselves and caring for the living world are never entirely separate acts.Â
V. A Bunny is Born
Healing eventually becomes creation.

Â
Inspired by the closing moments of Meet Joe Black, where death knows his place and time has come to a close in its human experience. This is our celebratory explosions candle: A Bunny Is Born celebrates the realization that your future no longer belongs to your past.
It is a candle of possibility, authorship, imagination, and hope. Not because the adversity was necessary, but because our lives are never limited to what happened to us.
Supporting MindUP, this final candle celebrates the lifelong importance of brain health, emotional regulation, and mental fitness. By helping children understand how their brains and emotions work from an early age, we create healthier futures built on resilience, curiosity, and self-awareness.
Sometimes the greatest act of healing is allowing yourself to imagine a future you genuinely want to live, and partake in creating the one you want for our generations of children to come. Â
